Northstar Fire Department's Mission

To Protect and Enhance the Quality of Life for our Community’s Members and Visitors through Community Risk Reduction, Aggressive Response, Strong Mutual Aid Agreements, and Personalized Service for Any Type of Incident.

The Northstar Fire Department is part of the Northstar Community Services District (NCSD). The motto of NCSD is providing service that goes "Above and Beyond". NCSD includes an administration department, a utility department, and a fire department. The fire department provides community risk reduction and emergency response services. Two strategically placed fire stations house Northstar Fire Department’s (NFD) equipment and personnel. Response apparatus includes three type 1 fire engines, two type 3 fire engines, one 100’ aerial quint, one light rescue, two chief Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs), and two snowmobiles. Response staffing consists of a fire chief, six captains, six engineers, four firefighters, and five seasonal firefighters. Non-response staffing consists of a forester, a full time forestry assistant, and a full time fire prevention officer. NFD is an “all-risk” department meaning it responds to all life-threatening emergencies in the community regardless of type. Personnel are trained in structural and vegetation fire suppression, hazardous material release emergencies, advanced life-saving procedures, rescue, and public assists, to name a few. The fire department provides staffing 24 hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year. Both structure engines and the light rescue contain a full complement of advanced life-saving medical equipment. All full-time response personnel are paramedics. The Truckee Fire Protection District and North Tahoe Fire Protection District provide ambulance transport. Northstar is a recognized Firewise Community with an ISO rating of 2.
